HENRIETTA FORD- First Colony's Mystery Author

MYSTERY WITH A SOUTHERN TWIST

THE HESSIAN LINK

In the snug study of a two hundred forty-year-old manor house on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, two Richmond City homicide detectives and a famous genealogist cordially sip after-dinner scotch. As the fire burns low, the genealogist abruptly turns to his guests and says, “I want you to solve a murder…a murder that occurred over two hundred and thirty years ago.”
Thus Jere Ford and his partner Ingrid Fairchild are cast into the most bizarre murder investigation they ever encountered. Modern techniques, historical documents, and ancient archives are used as these detectives travel back in time to solve the mystery of the disappearance of the beautiful enigmatic Caroline during the Hessian occupation of their home.

MURDER ON THE OBX

Travis White and Sam Barnett, two Alcohol Beverage Control officers, embark on a much-need fishing vacation on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Their vacation is interrupted when the body of a man is found on the beach at Nags Head. The Dare County sheriff recruits them to help local law enforcement officers Shucks Twine and Nona Godette in the investigation. Shucks’ intricate knowledge of the islands proves crucial to the investigation. And Nona---seductive, enticing Nona…brings her own attributes to the case. At first the officers think that this is a crime committed by an old nemesis…local bootlegger Maynard Drane. Soon they realize that the crime is much more far reaching when the FBI, INS, and ATF sweep in and threaten to snatch the case right out of the hands of the North Carolina officers. A turf war ensues. When the battle cools, federal and local agencies pool their information, and are shocked to discover that crimes far more sinister than the murder of a local bootlegger have occurred.

WHEN SLEEPING DOGS LIE

When Sheriff Benjamin Day and Ignatius Harder accompany their friend, Matt Murray to Williamsburg /James City County, Virginia their holiday is interrupted when the body of Matt’s cousin, Noah, is found floating among a bevy of crab pots in the murky waters of the James River. The police determine that he was murdered. However, before they can investigate, a hurricane churning off the coast suddenly moves inland and sets its eye straight for James City County. Matt and his friends seek refuge in his cousin’s two-hundred year old mansion where ghostly inhabitants and inexplicable happenings are rumored to occur. As the hurricane rages the three men launch their own investigation into Noah’s death. In the course of their investigation, they inadvertently lay bare family secrets, deceit, and treachery—and discover the shocking identity of Noah Murray’s murderer.

Henrietta F. Ford grew up in the small village of Seaboard in eastern North Carolina. Her childhood endowed her with memories of dusty country roads, misty swamps, and miles of unspoiled beaches that serve as inspiration for her stories of mystery and suspense. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and graduate degrees from Middle Tennessee University. She enjoys gardening, genealogy research, and goes to the Outer Banks of North Carolina as often as possible. She lives with her husband in Williamsburg, VA.

Once a part-time hobby, Tracy’s art is now a full-time business. Resigning from her art position at D.J. Montague, she now stays home with her daughter and works during nap-times and bed-times. Tracy also teaches art workshops, camps, etc.

Tracy’s experience as an elementary art teacher has inspired her use of bright colors and whimsical designs.

Capture This Moment Photografie

Capture This Moment Photografie is especially excited this autumn because we're celebrating our first holiday season in our new studio in Toano.  We're located at 110-A Depot Street, behind the Corner Tack Shop.  Our calendar is filling up for Saturday fall portraits!  We can either photograph your children, senior or family in-studio or on-location.  Most families are choosing on-location since the scenery and weather will be gorgeous!  I, Jodi Barder, am the main photographer and have been photographing families for 8 years now.  My husband, Mike, is the second photographer at weddings and he handles all marketing for our studio.  We moved here 2 years ago from San Diego and are in love with Williamsburg.  Cheese is not in our vocabulary and as a mom of 4 small kids (Chantale' (7), Christiana (5), Alexandria (3) and Michael (6 months), I love to capture the emotion that each childhood stage brings.  We look forward to meeting you soon!

SYLVIA HUNT- James River Pottery

Growing up in Tidewater, Virginia, I spent my youth on the Chesapeake Bay, Atlantic Ocean and the last 40 years on the James River. Living most of my life on the water and coming from generations of fisher-women, it is only natural that I create pottery
with nautical themes.

When time permits, I enjoy taking a departure from the nautical world and venture into
other art forms such as stained glass, fused glass, painting, woodworking and more
recently beading. Creating jewelry using a variety of beads and clay is a new challenge for me and the results have been fun and exciting.

Made of mud, clay, from the earth...whatever you choose to call it, pottery is my passion
and it is wonderful to create something that still involves skill and techniques that are
centuries old. Techniques that remind us that most of what we love is still created by the
works of our hands and imagination and not by mass production, automation and
duplication. I am one who loves to produce works of the heart as well as works of art.

Sylvia Hunt
James River Pottery

How it all began...

Living in Williamsburg has been great in so many ways- but since leaving Seattle in 2001- I've felt a bit starved(to say the least) for art, music, food & entertainment samplings so available in the Pacific Northwest,as in most big cities, at Street fairs and festivals of all types throughout the year! Even with the Seattle drizzle-spring , summer & fall festivals ABOUND in the area- at least one within short driving distance each weekend. There was the Sunday Market in a neighborhood called Fremont- that would move inside a refurbished warehouse for shelter from the elements during the winter months. Each neghborhood has at least one street fair throughout the year, complete with it's own vendors, restaurants/food vendors that set up tents to sell their tasty wares, artisans of all varieties, music of all types, jugglers, other street performers(some mime, others dance or perform a magic show...) All of these festivals are very kid- friendly- & have several craft areas for children. Certainly there are Many of such events around Virginia- but a very minimal amount of such in Williamsburg! The fact that we have 4 boys, aged 2-10, hasn't made my quest for art any easier the last few years! How many galleries or concert venues are set up to accomodate children? :) But I really enjoy the arts, and love to expose my boys to whatever music, art, culture I can, when I can! I'd been making mental notes for several years on all the talented folks I'd been meeting...wishing there was a smaller, less formal -kid friendly event(or several) in town where artisans could show(&sell) their wares, musicans could play their music, kid's could run & play & create some art of their own if they wanted, some food could be enjoyed, neighbors & new friends could be met in a friendly setting. I decided that our neighborhood clubhouse would be a good place to start such an event. The 1st First Colony Art Bazaar took place on Sat March 15th between 10-4. It was well attended, clubhouse space was a bit too tight(I wanted everyone participating to be able to be inside & under cover...) but it was a lovely event in spite of that! Wonderful artists & vendors displayed their art, books,wares... some money was raised for charities(Relay for Life & Operation Smile) and interest was generated for a similar summer event. The Summmer Art Bazaar was planned for Saturday June 28th from 9-3. It was a hot day - but several brave artisans & vendors set up outside the clubhouse under shade canopies, great support was shown for all artisans from the community, neighborhood and neighborhood swim team! We placed an ad the Wed B4 the event in our local paper, they'd given us a nice location in the paper, and had rated us one of the Top 10 things to do that weekend in Williamsburg!A good amount of Money was raised to go toward the purchase of a new sturdy, attractive shade structure for our neighborhood pool-via raffle baskets, and food sales! This event featured some wonderful new artisans, and another neighborhood author, who had committed to supporting the event even though his wedding was taking place the following day -Sunday June 29th, 2008! A majority of these same artisans and many more will be at the Holiday Art Bazaar on Saturday, November 1st from 10am-3pm. Most of the participants will be outside this time, as some of our most seasoned artisans have asked to have more space to do their full Holiday displays inside the clubhouse! We look forward to a lovely fall day, great browsing & shopping for everyone who comes to sample these amazing talents in Williamsburg! Feel free to shop with children- there's plenty for them to do, while you peruse the possibilities of completing your holiday shopping lists! SHOW IS FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

That evening there's music planned - a voice to delight all ears! ME & JO - a varied, dynamic acoustic duo will play at the clubhouse(outside -weather permitting). You can listen to sample songs at meandjo.net.Tickets are $5 for adults & children 16 & older. Our goal is to meet band cost- any excess after that go to the First Colony's Neighborhood's ongoing Park/Pool Revitalizing fund! We're happy to share this wonderful duo with the families of surrounding neighborhoods, and any folks in the community looking for great music in an informal, neighborhood setting! Bring potluck item or your own picnic dinner, chairs, or blanket.

Hopefully artists will be able to post links to their websites, some photos of their work, bios, etc...so you can pass the news about this great gathering of artisans to your friends in the area!
